Dirt & Water Repellents play a crucial role in the protection of the coatings. They protect the coated surfaces from environmental factors such as water (which could come in the form of humidity, rain, etc.) or dirt (which could build up over time). They play an important role in increasing the service life of the coating.
Water could potentially penetrate the surface and corrode/degrade the surface underneath; whereas dust accumulation over a period of time could erode the coating, exposing the underneath surface to the external environment. They are either incorporated during the manufacturing of the coating or else applied as a topcoat over the applied coating. For water repellency, the surface is made more hydrophobic which increases the contact angle of water droplets on the coated surface. For the self-cleaning effect, the sliding angle is reduced further. In addition, surfaces are also made slippery to prevent the sticking of the dust microparticles.
These repellents help to maintain the gloss, retain adhesion and protect surface from corrosion and/or efflorescence effects.
Additive WPC-A1 is a masonry water repellent based on organosilicon as an active component. Waterproofing WPC-A1 penetrates deep inside the pores of substrates and forms a resin coating. Thus, the formed film impregnates the substrate, providing dual benefits of water repellency and retention of breathability for the substrate.
